Academic Support

Students support service

Our school recognizes the diverse needs of children and adolescents. MVM employs counselors and learning support specialists for all age groups.

The Student Support Services department is able to provide the following services to enhance student achievement and adjustment.

Counseling Services

The elementary school psychologist supports the academic, social and emotional needs of elementary students at MVM. The psychologist offers classroom lessons and support services for students and families as they manage issues of studying and living in an environment. The goal is to promote personal well-being, healthy relationships and the successful balance of academic, extracurricular and community involvement for our students.

Middle and high school guidance and counseling services support students in the development of their unique learning styles and personal growth. In middle school there is an advisory program that guides the students in their academic, personal, emotional and career awareness growth. In the high school, an organized and systematic approach to academic counseling supports students in the development of a four-year plan to attain entry to the desired post-academic program. Individual and family presentations help with preparation of excellent college admissions applications and career planning.

Learning Support Services

There is a learning support specialist for all subjects. They consult with teachers, parents, and other school personnel in order to maximize student achievement. Short-term enrichment support may also be available to students by our faculties.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The EAL Support Service is available at MVMfor students with limited experience in an English-medium school. Students receive support through referral at the time of admission or by the classroom teacher. The students are supported in their development of both social and academic language skills, utilizing the curriculum of the respective grade level. The EAL specialist works closely with the classroom teacher, and together they assess and monitor students’ English language acquisition. Students learn language in a safe and nurturing environment in which language is easily accessible. Students receive support in small group pull-out instruction and/or in class support in which the EAL specialist providesgroup guidance and one-on-one support when necessary.

Students may be considered for exit from EAL Support Services when they consistently demonstrate grade level language proficiency. The EAL specialists and classroom teachers carefully review recent assessments, test scores and evaluate classroom performance to make a recommendation for exit from support services.

The middle school and high school EAL program uses a sheltered immersion model of instruction, which provides support while simultaneously immersing the student in the mainstream population. Depending upon their English proficiency level, middle and high school EAL students may be enrolled in specially designed EAL classes where the focus is on improving skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

Clubs and Academic Teams

MVM clubs and academic teams provide opportunities for students fulfill the core values of Dedicated Service, Sense of Self, Balance in Life and Academic Excellence. Students can choose from different clubs and/or teams which include both community-based projects and activity-based projects. Participating students develop leadership and communication skills while building friendships. Involvement in academic teams give our students the chance to follow their passion and to improve their knowledge of specific subject areas.

Robotics

Science and technology are extremely popular with today's youth; they are also a pathway to career opportunities in the future. Engaging in technology activities when young can help to stimulate interest in those fields, develop mastery of necessary technologies, and energize the classroom

Why Robotics at MVM

Children find it fun

There are several competitions for a range of age groups that can channel competitive instincts in a positive way. For example, asking children to build a robot from a Lego set and then running a race to see which robot goes fastest works well.

In my experience, the two most engaging ways of introducing IT in the curriculum are robotics and computer game design.

Effective way of introducing programming to students

Programming can be too abstract. By having to control a physical robot and seeing what goes wrong, students learn what robots can and can’t do. They also learn the need for precise instructions.

Robotics helps address the growing demand for teaching science, technology, engineering and math in schools. As well as exemplifying technology directly by programming the robot, students also learn about science, engineering and math and get an understanding of how these subjects link together.

Provide skills useful in future employment

There’s no doubt that there will be a need for people to be involved in programming mechanical devices in the foreseeable future. The drone industry has taken off more than 15,000 drones are being sold in the US each month.

By programming robots, students can discover if they have aptitude and interest in a job market of the future.

Demystifies a complex technology

Understanding what machines can and can’t do is the best way to address fears.

Experience in trying to build and program robots gives appreciation of their capabilities and strengths. Personally, I am looking forward to more robotic help in the future.

The House System(For Students of STD I to IX)

  • One of the main objectives of House System is to foster in the students a sense of collective responsibility and solidarity and at the same time rekindle and develop the social quality talent in every child.
  • It is the House System that channels discipline in all students.
  • The complex curricular, co-curricular activities directs the energies and talent of the students.

At MVM we pride ourselves on offering a broad and balanced co-curricular programme. A wide range of sports are catered for through the standard curriculum and as part of our extensive extra-curricular programme.

We have a special tie up with EDU sport company to plan and design our sport curriculum.

In addition to the teaching of motor control and multi skills in the early years, we also train many sport like basketball, Table Tennis, Football and Cricket within our sporting curriculum.

Students have the opportunity to participate in regular inter-house competitions in many of these sports and enjoy annual sports days and CBSE Cluster matches which prove to be hugely popular.

In addition to the sporting activities on offer, the older students have the opportunity to plan their own pathway in sport in a professional way after school hours to have a Healthy and Active Lifestyles.
